Our Story

Started in a basement.
Still community-owned.

In 2005, Bank President Don Bennett set out to build a bank grounded in community, relationships, and doing the right thing. Freedom Bank began in his basement before quickly outgrowing the space and moving into a 980 sq. ft. trailer, proudly marked by an American flag and a banner that read:

“Ya gotta start somewhere!”

Twenty years later, we’re over $150 million in assets with a headquarters in the heart of Columbia Falls. We’ve grown, but we haven’t changed what matters: we’re still locally owned, and every decision is made right here in the Flathead Valley.

WHAT WE INVEST IN

We support three areas that define life here: youth, community well-being, and wilderness preservation.

For youth, we back programs that give kids access to healthy food, quality education, and the support they need to thrive. We invest in the next generation because they’re building the valley’s future.

For our neighbors, we fund local sports, arts, healthcare, and initiatives supporting seniors and veterans. These aren’t one-time donations. They’re ongoing commitments to the people and places that make our community work.

And we protect the wilderness that surrounds us. The mountains, rivers, and trails aren’t just scenery. They’re part of our economy, our way of life, and who we are. We’re committed to keeping them that way.

HOW WE BANK

We believe banking should be relationship-first, technology-enabled. Not the other way around.

That means you get a real person who knows your name and understands your goals. When you call, a real person picks up the phone. Not a menu. Not a chatbot. A person.

You also get mobile banking, online tools, and digital services that work when you need them.

Old-school service with modern capability. Personal attention without making you walk into a branch for every transaction. That balance has been our approach since day one, and it’s what sets us apart.

What Drives Us

Freedom Bank was built on the belief that strong relationships, thoughtful service, and integrity matter. We strive to deliver modern, efficient banking while supporting the financial well-being of our customers, employees, and community.

Our guiding philosophy is “Do the right thing… always.”

“My vision is an environment where I am surrounded by cheerful, engaged people that encourage and inspire success for themselves and those around them.  My vision includes the goal of building a solid financial base for my family, future generations, friends, coworkers and community while enabling the creation of positive, life-long memories for everyone along the way.”
